After trading away Kevin Durant this offseason and shaking up the roster, the Phoenix Suns made the decision to extend shooting guard Devin Booker to a historic deal. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the two sides have officially agreed on a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension that will keep Booker under contract through the 2029-30 season. Booker is a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA player in his 10 years in the league thus far.

The 28-year-old guard had a solid season as in 75 games he averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 0.9 steals while shooting 46.1% from the floor, 33.2% from the 3-point line, and 89.4% from the free-throw line. With the Phoenix Suns roster undergoing some changes, their franchise star is now under control for five seasons and making $316 million in the process. With the ability to be a point guard on the court, the Suns have a star to build around going forward.

With a new potential starting five of Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Bradley Beal, Dillon Brooks, and Mark Williams, there is a lot to be excited about in regards to the future of the franchise. This team can surprise people and be in the conversation regarding a playoff spot, but now need Booker to step up and be an All-NBA player more than ever with the franchise looking to get back to prominence.
