Japanese Ace Tatsuya Imai wants to take down the Dodgers.

Tatsuya Imai Is Ready To Take Down the Los Angeles Dodgers

Japanese ace Tatsuya Imai is one of the best pitchers on the open market and will command a huge contract this offseason. Imai is ready to compete in Major League Baseball, but most importantly, he has his eyes set on taking down the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Imai Is Ready To Compete

When asked about potentially playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Imai said he wanted to take them down.

I want to take them down. I may as well. Of course, it looks fun to play alongside Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki. But I think being able to beat a team like that would be one of the most worthy things in my life.

With most of the Japanese talent going to the Dodgers in the last two offseasons, Imai will seemingly take a different approach. He knows the Dodgers are the gold standard of Major League Baseball and wants to take down the star-studded roster. The Japanese ace also said he wants to join a team without any Japanese players.

“Since they went to the US before me, I can ask them questions like ‘what did you do in this situation,’ right? But actually…I don’t really desire that. I want to have a sense of ‘survival’ on my own.”

His competitiveness is truly unmatched, and he has a great mindset heading into a much bigger league next season. It appears he’s ready to join a big market with the talent to compete with top teams in the league, like the Los Angeles Dodgers. Being that he doesn’t want to join a team that already has Japanese talent, that would potentially rule out the Dodgers, Padres, Angels, Cubs, Red Sox, and Mets.

Yankees Continue To Make Perfect Sense

The New York Yankees remain an ideal destination for Imai. He would fit seamlessly into their rotation and has shown he’s ready for the spotlight. Taking down the Dodgers is no easy task, and the Yankees failed to do so in the 2024 World Series, losing just five games. The Yankees have not had a top Japanese player since Masahiro Tanaka, aligning with what Imai seeks in his next team.

While many overseas fans support the Dodgers for Ohtani and Yamamoto, Imai going to the Bronx could spark a wave of excitement among younger Yankees fans who missed most of Tanaka’s great career and are eager to see another top-end international talent.

The Yankees were reported to be the favorites to land Tatsuya Imai, and he’ll be one of their top priorities in the offseason.
