Victor Wembanyama’s Jaw-Dropping Performance in 2025 Spurs Opener

San Antonio Spurs

Victor Wembanyama lived up to the “Alien” nickname very effectively in the San Antonio Spurs’ opener. The 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year was by far the best player on the floor in the Spurs’ 125-92 victory as Wembanyama accumulated 40 points, 15 rebounds, an assist, a steal, and three blocks. Wembanyama was the guy in full control in this game, as he could get to any spot on the floor he wanted to. Let’s dive into this performance a bit more.

Wembanyama’s Efficient Night

Versus the Mavericks, Wembanyama was 15-for-21 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line, a very strong, efficient night, especially against the likes of Anthony Davis and Derrick Lively on the other end of the floor. Wemby’s 40 points set a new San Antonio Record for points in a season opener, yes, the franchise that had Tim Duncan as a staple for a long time. Yeah, it’s officially Wembanyama’s world, and we’re just living in it now.

The efficiency and skill were off the charts, and it was beautiful to watch, especially for San Antonio fans, especially when most of the National Media were hyping up this Dallas Mavericks team all offseason because of the Davis, Kyrie Irving, and 2025 No.1 Overall Pick Cooper Flagg. I want to say this: he has officially ascended, yeah, the NBA is in danger now!

Final Thoughts

Wembanyama is going to be one of the dark horse candidates for the MVP award this season, and this performance is Exhibit A of that claim. If the Spurs can keep winning and being in the mix this season and potentially make the postseason, Wemby is going to win that MVP trophy! And that is a scary thought as this French Alien continues to define new levels of his game and make opponents look silly on the NBA court.
