Auburn Tigers Earn No. 1 Overall Seed In 2025 NCAA Tournament

Auburn Tigers
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl works the sideline against Tennessee during the second half of their quarterfinal game of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, March 15, 2025.

The Auburn Tigers were named the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. They will be playing in the South Region of the bracket. It is the first time in program history the Tigers have earned the top overall seed. Unfortunately, the Tigers are playing their worst basketball of the season heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Auburn has dropped three of their last four games. All three losses have come against ranked teams in the stacked SEC. Head Coach Bruce Pearl will have a few days to get his team focused before their first game of the NCAA Tournament. Will the Auburn Tigers be able to right the ship and make a deep run in the tournament?

Auburn Tigers Season Summary

Auburn was 27-2 before losing three of their final four games. The Tigers will go as far in the NCAA Tournament as Forward Johni Broome takes them. He led the team in points per game, rebounds, assists, and blocks this season. He has been one of the best players in the nation this year. He will look to carry that into the tournament.

The Auburn Tigers have been paced by their offense this season. They are 10th in points per game, 24th in field goal percentage, and 47th in three-point percentage. Auburn’s defense has also been strong this season. They are 103rd in points allowed, 39th in opposing field goal percentage, and seventh in opposing three-point percentage. The Auburn Tigers are one of the most balanced teams in the nation and are a favorite to win the National Championship.

Final Thoughts

Auburn’s opponent is not known as the winner of a “First Four” game between Alabama State-St. Francis(PA) will play the Tigers. Pearl projected confidence in his press conference following the team’s loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. He is not focused on how the team ended the season. Instead, he is focused on looking ahead and preparing his team for a gauntlet he hopes culminates in a championship.
