Unleashing the roar from the heart of Cincinnati’s defense, BJ Hill, the steadfast defensive tackle, is making a comeback to the Cincinnati Bengals on a triumphant three-year deal worth $33 million, inclusive of an impressive $16 million guaranteed lump sum. This news was confidentially conveyed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter this Monday.
The Bengals Rolled Dice on BJ Hill
When the Bengals strategically swapped former first-rounder Billy Price with BJ Hill through a timely trade just at the outset of the 2021 season, little did they know the phenomenal role Hill was destined to play. Once the deal was struck, it was like unlocking a tiger, and the rest, as they say, is history. Over the past four seasons, Hill stood like a mountain for the Bengals, fiercely starting in 50 games, out of which a resounding 48 were in the last three seasons. During his 64-game tenure with Cincinnati, Hill seemed to be a sacker by nature, with a tally of 16 sacks, and equally lethal on quarterbacks, taking them down 53 times.
Hill, the formidable 29-year-old, took the route of free agency once his earlier three-year contract, amounting to $30 million, wrapped up the season finale. But it wasn’t just his peremptory pass rush skills that were missed. Hill highlighted his versatility as one of the NFL’s top interior run defenders and stood testament to the fact that age is just a number. The numbers speak for themselves. Hill secured a commendable ninth rank among all defensive or nose tackles in the run-stop win rate category.
BJ Hill Career Stats
Reflecting on Hill’s seven-year-long career, the astonishing statistics of 23.5 sacks, coupled with 341 tackles, only confirm the re-signing of this Bengal tiger. The return of BJ Hill is a testament to his undeniable importance to the Bengals’ defensive prowess, rekindling the hope for continued sporting excellence.
