Report: Boston Red Sox Plan To Be ‘Aggressive’ In Trade Market After 15-Game Win Streak

Just a month ago, the Boston Red Sox looked like a team destined to sell at the trade deadline. Now, they’re reportedly preparing to do the exact opposite.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Boston plans to be aggressive buyers ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, with several high-profile names already emerging as potential targets.

The Red Sox reportedly aren’t limiting themselves to one position. Nightengale reports Boston has interest in Angels shortstop Zach Neto and Nationals star C.J. Abrams, while Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers is also on the club’s radar.

Each player would address a different need, giving Boston plenty of flexibility depending on how the trade market develops over the next two weeks.

Boston’s Turnaround Changed Everything

It’s remarkable how quickly the Red Sox changed their outlook. Boston was just 31-45 on June 22 and looked like a team preparing to move veterans for future assets. Instead, the club caught fire, going 21-4 to vault itself back into the American League playoff race.

That incredible stretch completely altered the organization’s approach, making buying at the deadline the logical next step.

C.J. Abrams And Zach Neto Would Both Be Major Upgrades

With Trevor Story still sidelined, it’s easy to understand why Boston is exploring the shortstop market.

Abrams has emerged as one of baseball’s most dynamic middle infielders, combining power and speed while producing one of the best offensive seasons among shortstops. Neto would also provide a significant boost, bringing proven power and an ability to impact games on both sides of the ball.

Either player would give the Red Sox another dangerous bat as they chase a postseason berth.

Shea Langeliers Could Solve Another Need

Boston’s reported interest doesn’t stop in the infield.

Langeliers has developed into one of the American League’s top offensive catchers, earning his first All-Star selection while providing impressive power behind the plate. Adding a player of his caliber would strengthen another key position and deepen an already improving lineup.

Acquiring Langeliers likely wouldn’t come cheaply, but the Red Sox appear willing to explore major moves if they believe it improves their chances of making a deep playoff run.

Expect Boston To Be One Of The Most Active Teams

With the trade deadline approaching, all signs point toward the Red Sox being heavily involved in the market.

Whether they ultimately land Abrams, Neto, Langeliers or another impact player, Boston has made it clear it’s no longer thinking about the future. After one of the best stretches in baseball, the front office appears ready to capitalize on the momentum and make a serious push toward October.
