The Milwaukee Bucks made another roster move as free agency gained momentum. This time, they parted ways with a long-tenured contributor in their backcourt rotation.

The Bucks traded Pat Connaughton to the Charlotte Hornets. In return, they acquired guard Vasilije Micić and cleared future salary obligations.

Pat Connaughton’s Era in Milwaukee Ends

Pat Connaughton spent seven seasons with the Bucks after arriving in 2018. He contributed to the 2021 championship team and carved out a steady bench role. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.0 rebounds across 440 games in Milwaukee. Though not flashy, his hustle and three-point shooting made him a fan favorite.

Connaughton opted into his 2025–26 deal before being included in the trade. The move saves Milwaukee cap space and flexibility after signing Myles Turner. In the deal, Charlotte receives Connaughton and two second-round picks. Milwaukee gets Micić, a 32-year-old Serbian guard with international and NBA experience.

Micić Brings Depth and Experience

Micić has played two NBA seasons after debuting with the Thunder in 2023. He has averaged 6.8 points and 3.7 assists in his short career. He most recently played in Charlotte after a draft-night deal from Phoenix. Last season, he contributed 6.6 points and 3.1 assists in a limited role.

Known for his high basketball IQ and steady playmaking, Micić adds backcourt depth. He brings EuroLeague experience and could thrive in a structured Bucks system. His arrival offers Milwaukee an affordable, short-term option behind the starting guards. Micić may benefit from playing alongside established stars and veteran leadership.

Final Thoughts

The Pat Connaughton trade signals Milwaukee’s ongoing transition entering the 2025 season. By adding Micić, the Bucks gain cap relief and a capable backup guard. For Charlotte, Connaughton provides a veteran presence in a young, evolving lineup. His leadership and playoff experience could prove helpful in tight late-game moments.

Milwaukee’s front office continues to reshape the roster with long-term flexibility in mind. Though Connaughton’s exit may sting, it aligns with the team’s bigger goals. Micić may not be a household name, but he fits Milwaukee’s current direction. The Bucks will hope this low-risk swap leads to steady production and balance.
