The Buffalo Bills headed into the offseason with a need at wide receiver. While they didn’t make a big splash in the offseason, they might have made one of the best value signings of the year. The team signed wide receiver Elijah Moore to a one-year deal yesterday. The former second-round pick is only 25 years old but on his third team already. His stints with the Jets and Browns have been full of quarterback turmoil and organizational disasters. Moore is excited to have an opportunity with a “top-caliber team.”
Buffalo Bills Elijah Moore On New Opportunity
Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported the deal is worth up to $5 million. It is basically a one-year prove-it deal for the young receiver. That is making Elijah Moore even more motivated. He is excited to be on a team that is competing for a Super Bowl.
“My whole career, I haven’t really had, you know, too many great opportunities with a stable quarterback the entire season. You know, I’ve been playing with so many guys — what it feels like is five quarterbacks every single season. So I just feel like having, you know, being blessed with opportunity to, God willing, have ‘17’ for the entire season, the MVP at that. A top-tier-caliber player, top-tier-caliber team, top-tier-caliber coaches putting you in position, I just feel like it would just be the best position that I’ve been put in yet. So, it’s just so much to look forward to from that. Why not run towards it?”
Despite the instability at the quarterback position in his career, Moore has put up decent stats. Last year for the Cleveland Browns, he caught 61 passes for 538 yards and a touchdown. With Josh Allen as his quarterback, there is no telling what he could do.
Sneaky Good Signing
Here is the list of quarterbacks Elijah Moore has had throwing the ball to him in the past four years.
- Zach Wilson (New York Jets)
- Mike White (New York Jets)
- Joe Flacco (Cleveland Browns)
- Deshaun Watson (Cleveland Browns)
- Dorian Thompson-Robinson (Cleveland Browns)
- P.J. Walker (Cleveland Browns)
- Jeff Driskel (Cleveland Browns)
- Jameis Winston (Cleveland Browns)
- Bailey Zappe (Cleveland Browns)
Yikes. It’s hard to blame the receiver for a lack of production, but unfortunately, stigmas about a player can stick regardless of whether it is his fault or not. Moore now has the reigning MVP of the league throwing to him. Allen is light years ahead of any of the people on this list. If he and Moore can create rapport quickly, the young receiver could be in for a career year.
Final Thoughts
The Buffalo Bills have come up short year after year. Each year they seem to inch a little closer but can never get over the hump that is the Kansas City Chiefs. Will this signing be one of the best of the offseason and help jump-start the passing offense in Buffalo?
