Brigham Young University (BYU) Wide Receiver Parker Kingston is no longer a member of the university’s football team after the Washington County Attorney’s Office charged Kingston, 21, with one count of felony rape on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The Details Of the Kingston Incident

The felony rape charge came after a nearly yearlong investigation that began when a 20-year-old woman reported a sexual assault to officers at St. George Regional Hospital, according to a news release. She told officers that Kingston sexually assaulted her on Feb. 23, 2025.

“Detectives with the St. George Police Department then gathered digital and forensic evidence,” the Attorney’s Office said. “They also conducted interviews with the parties involved and other witnesses. The information was then turned over to the Washington County Attorney’s Office for review.”

Kingston was held without bail in Washington County Jail in Hurricane, Utah, and appeared remotely via WebEx on Friday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m. local time. He’s presumed innocent until proven guilty.

BYU Wide Receiver No Longer With Football Team

BYU may not be one of the flashiest colleges in the NCAA world, but both cases are high-profile due to both players’ stats and the significant media attention to such players.

“BYU became aware today of the arrest of Parker Kingston,” the BYU athletic department said in a statement on Wednesday, Feb. 11. “The university takes any allegation very seriously and will cooperate with law enforcement. Due to federal and university privacy laws and practices for students, the university will not be able to provide additional comment.”

Former Quarterback Jake Retzlaff was also named in a civil lawsuit by an anonymous woman who accused him of sexual assault in May 2025. The civil lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice in June 2025. No criminal charges were filed. Retzlaff subsequently unenrolled from BYU but took some time to find a new college football team due to many colleges’ caution as a result of his case.

The Legal Process Updates

No reports have confirmed if Kingston has an attorney. He did not respond to CNN’s message seeking comment. Also, CNN’s phone message to his family wasn’t immediately returned.

BYU’s Outlook

BYU finished last season in second place, trailing just Texas Tech, which led the Big 12 with a 12-2 overall (8-1 conference) record. BYU’s 12-2 (8-1) record shows that the Cougars will be fine on the field come 2026.
