Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford looks to take the next step during the 2025-26 NBA season. Here’s what you need to know about Gafford, 26, ahead of the new season, including the expected changes and the details of the $54 million contract he signed this past summer.
Daniel Gafford Looks to Take Next Step
The Dallas Mavericks have made significant changes. Despite not being a newcomer, Daniel Gafford will likely get more minutes with the Mavericks, similar to the amount he’s received in his first 86 games in Dallas, Texas.
Gafford signed a three-year, $54 million contract this summer. However, Gafford’s reportedly unlikely to let his bank account get to his head. The 26-year-old will take charge as a fixture in the Mavericks’ rotation.
Daniel Gafford’s Outlook
Daniel Gafford’s outlook appears to be optimistic. Gafford’s known as a dunkaholic who’s capable with the short push shots in the paint. Gafford also matches the Dallas Mavericks’ mentality on defense. Gafford is a valuable player on the Mavericks’ roster. Gafford’s positive qualities include few mistakes, and if he sees one of his teammates make a mistake, he’ll cover it up with high-quality defense.
Final Thoughts
Daniel Gafford is arguably the perfect complement to fellow Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively. Gafford was a starter in all 22 playoff games when the Mavericks raced to the 2024 NBA Finals. Gafford averaged 1.8 blocks per game during the 2024-25 NBA season, a slight decrease from the 2.1 blocks the year prior. However, Gafford can match or surpass 2.1 blocks this upcoming season, as long as he maintains his inner drive and stays healthy.
