Philadelphia Eagles WR Dontayvion Wicks Is Embracing His Fresh Start With New Team

Dontayvion Wicks vs the Lions in November
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (13) makes a catch against Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) during the second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.

Sometimes, all a player needs is a fresh opportunity. After spending his first three NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Dontayvion Wicks is entering 2026 with a new team, a new contract, and a renewed mindset. Following his offseason trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, Wicks isn’t dwelling on what happened in Green Bay. Instead, he’s focused on making the most of the opportunity in front of him.

Dontayvion Wicks Is Focused On Proving Himself

The biggest takeaway from Wicks’ offseason comments is how motivated he is. Rather than expressing frustration over being traded, Wicks has repeatedly talked about gratitude and opportunity. After the Eagles acquired him, they immediately backed up their belief by signing him to a new two-year contract.

“It just showed me the value and love that Philly has for me,” Wicks said. “I want to come out and show what I’m worth.”

That’s exactly the mentality every player hopes to have after changing teams.

Familiar Faces Made The Transition Easier

The move to Philadelphia wasn’t completely unfamiliar for Wicks. Former Packers assistants Ryan Mahaffey and Sean Mannion joined the Eagles’ coaching staff this offseason, giving Wicks an immediate comfort level with his new organization.

Wicks admitted those existing relationships played a significant role in helping him adjust and gave him confidence that the Philadelphia Eagles truly believed in what he could bring to the offense. That familiarity should help shorten the learning curve as he settles into his new role.

The Eagles Already Believe In His Talent

Philadelphia didn’t trade for Wicks simply because he knew the coaching staff. The Eagles have been vocal about what they like in his game.

Head coach Nick Sirianni praised his route running, comparing parts of his game to Keenan Allen. General manager Howie Roseman highlighted his ability to create separation, while All-Pro cornerback Quinyon Mitchell called Wicks one of the most underrated receivers he’s faced.

Those are strong endorsements for a player looking to establish himself in a new offense.

A Bigger Opportunity Awaits

Wicks understands nothing is guaranteed. His comments throughout the offseason have centered on earning his role, building chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts, and improving every day.

“I want to be the best I can be,” Wicks said. “Whatever the team asks me to do, step up and play that role.”

That mindset could pay off. The Eagles have one of the NFL’s deepest receiving rooms, but injuries and opportunities inevitably arise throughout a long season. Wicks knows that if he continues to prepare, his chance will come.

For a player looking to revive his career after being traded, it’s hard to have a better outlook than the one Dontayvion Wicks is carrying into the 2026 season.
