Gonzaga Bulldogs clinch a thrilling victory over the Kennesaw State Owls. This was their first victory in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament on March 19.  Despite being favorites, Gonzaga was pushed by a determined Kennesaw State side before pulling away late to seal the win.

Owls Start Strong

Kennesaw State entered the game with confidence and took Gonzaga by surprise at the beginning of the game. The Owls applied good speed and movement around the perimeter, leaping to a 147 lead and pushing the Bulldogs to play on defense. Gonzaga didn’t establish rhythm during the first few minutes, especially in the area of outside shooting.

But the Bulldogs slowly built their confidence and started stepping up in the game. Forward Graham Ike was now an important contributor, providing balance in the offense by scoring regularly around the basket. With his arrival, Gonzaga got confidence despite the initial loss.

The key moment was in the final part of the first half when Gonzaga generated a 10-0 run to retake control. That rush changed the tide, and the Bulldogs led 33 27 at halftime, even though the Owls got an excellent start.

Second Half: Bulldogs Takeover

Kennesaw State was not going to give up the break and soon prepared the counter. The Owls also narrowed the gap by a single point at 43-42, which maintained the pressure on Gonzaga and made the game more intense.

Gonzaga, in turn, demonstrated experience and calm. A decisive 17 4 run by the Bulldogs responded and eventually characterized the game. Davis Fogle, the freshman, contributed significantly in this period, making important baskets. Jalen Warley controlled the boards and minimized second-chance opportunities to the Owls.

Bulldogs stayed calm even in the final minutes despite a last-minute effort by Kennesaw State to narrow the gap to five points. They had good free-throw shooting, which made the lead not really threatened, and took their time to see out the game.

Key Performances

Graham Ike provided the Gonzaga offense with a presence in the paint, scoring 19. He got eight rebounds and got important baskets just when they were needed.

Davis Fogle made a splash in his NCAA Tournament debut with an impressive 17 points, which were mainly made in the second half. His timely scoring helped Gonzaga extend its lead while the game was still closely contested.

Mario Saint-Supéry also did well as a playmaker with a final score of seven points and eight assists, the most on the team, before he was forced out of the game by foul play.

Key Team Factors

His timely scoring helped Gonzaga extend its lead while the game was still closely contested.
