Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has made it clear that he would love to remain with the team that drafted him in 2022. However, with his rookie contract expiring and the Packers facing salary cap challenges, the question remains: can the team afford to keep him?

Romeo Doubs’ Desire to Stay With The Green Bay Packers

In a recent interview, Doubs expressed his appreciation for the Packers organization and his desire to continue his career in Green Bay. “I would love to be a Green Bay Packer, but I’m just aware of this business. I understand how things go,” Doubs said. His comments reflect both his loyalty to the team and his understanding of the financial realities of the NFL.

Doubs also shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking his teammates and reflecting on his growth during his time in Green Bay. The post, which many interpreted as a potential farewell, drew an outpouring of support from his fellow Packers receivers, including Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Tucker Kraft.

A Career Year

Romeo Doubs is coming off a career-best season in 2025, recording 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 55 receptions. His performance in the playoffs, where he posted eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown, further showcased his value as a reliable target in the Packers’ offense.

Over his four-year career, Doubs has exceeded expectations as a former fourth-round pick, amassing 202 receptions for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns. His ability to step up in critical moments has made him a fan favorite and a key contributor to Green Bay’s success.

The Financial Challenge

Despite Doubs’ desire to stay, the Packers face significant financial hurdles in retaining him. According to Over the Cap, Doubs’ market value is estimated at $13 million per year, with Spotrac projecting a potential four-year, $48 million deal in free agency. For a team already navigating salary cap constraints, committing to a long-term deal of that magnitude may be difficult.

The Packers have also invested heavily in young receivers through the draft, including first-round pick Matthew Golden and third-round pick Savion Williams. With Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks also entering contract years, Green Bay may prioritize other options over Doubs.

What’s Next?

If the Packers are unable to reach an agreement with Doubs, he is expected to test the free-agent market, where he could command a lucrative deal. Green Bay would likely receive a compensatory draft pick in 2027 if Doubs signs elsewhere, but losing him would leave a void in the team’s receiving corps.

For now, Doubs’ future remains uncertain. While his heart is in Green Bay, the business side of the NFL may ultimately dictate his next move. Packers fans will be watching closely as the offseason unfolds, hoping for a resolution that keeps one of their favorite players in green and gold.
