Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is on the verge of etching his name into the NFL record books. With a remarkable scoring streak that has carried over from his time with the Raiders, Jacobs has become one of the most consistent touchdown producers in the league. As the Packers prepare to face the Cleveland Browns, Jacobs has a unique opportunity to tie a record held by a Hall of Famer, but he’ll have to do it against the league’s most formidable run defense.

This Sunday is more than just another game for Jacobs; it’s a chance to solidify his place among the elite. His pursuit of history highlights his immense value to the Packers’ offense and sets the stage for a compelling battle between a premier running back and a dominant defensive front.

Green Bay Packers Josh Jacobs: A Chance to Tie a Hall of Famer

Including the postseason, Josh Jacobs has scored a rushing touchdown in 11 consecutive games. This impressive run has placed him in elite company. If he finds the end zone against the Browns on Sunday, he will tie Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson for the longest such streak since 2000. Tomlinson achieved his 12-game streak back in 2004.

While Jacobs remains focused on team success, he acknowledged the significance of being mentioned alongside one of his childhood idols. “Obviously, he’s a great,” Jacobs said of Tomlinson. “He’s one guy that I looked up to growing up playing this running back position. So, it’s definitely a great honor.” The all-time record, including playoffs, belongs to another Hall of Famer, John Riggins, who scored in 15 straight games. Jacobs’ current 11-game streak is tied for the sixth-longest since 1970.

This remarkable consistency underscores Jacobs’ talent and his knack for finding the end zone, a skill that has become a cornerstone of the Packers’ offensive identity.

Analyzing the Josh Jacobs Touchdown Streak Record

Jacobs’ ability to score is not a matter of luck; it’s a product of skill, vision, and power. He has become arguably the most efficient goal-line back in the NFL. Since joining the Packers, he has converted 12 of his 16 carries from inside the opponent’s 3-yard line into touchdowns. This 75% success rate is the best among all players with at least five touchdowns from that distance.

What makes him so effective in the most congested area of the field? Running backs coach Ben Sirmans credits a combination of factors. “You combine that with how quick he is, along with his power, that makes it easier for him to get tacklers to bounce off him, finish with great strength,” Sirmans explained. “He’s got really good instincts and vision to find the hole.”

Jacobs himself attributes his success to his understanding of defensive schemes and his low pad level. He has a unique ability to find small creases and power through contact to gain the necessary yardage. His touchdown run against the Washington Commanders, where he ran over linebacker Frankie Luvu, was a perfect example of his goal-line prowess.

A Formidable Challenge Awaits

Tying Tomlinson’s record will be no easy task. Jacobs and the Packers’ offense are set to face the Cleveland Browns, who boast the NFL’s top-ranked run defense. Through the first two weeks of the season, the Browns have been practically impenetrable, allowing a mere 2.1 yards per carry and just one rushing touchdown.

This matchup presents a classic “unstoppable force meets immovable object” scenario. The Packers’ rushing attack will face its toughest test of the season, and Jacobs’ ability to find running room will be critical. The battle in the trenches will be intense, and every yard will be hard-earned.

For offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich, Jacobs provides a major confidence boost in short-yardage situations. “He’s got a knack for finding the seam, getting in the end zone,” Stenavich said. “It’s just a big confidence boost when you get down inside the 5-yard line, give him the ball a couple times and you got a touchdown.”

Jacobs is embracing the challenge. “I think it’s going to be an interesting week to be able to see where we’re at to go against a great defense like that,” he commented. As he stands on the brink of history, his performance against this elite defense will be a true measure of his and the Packers’ offensive might. All eyes will be on him this Sunday to see if he can continue his historic run and join one of the game’s all-time greats in the record books.
