As the NFL Draft approaches, the Green Bay Packers are diligently evaluating prospects to bolster their secondary. The front office recently hosted Wake Forest cornerback Karon Prunty for a pre-draft visit. Prunty brings an intriguing blend of size, extensive experience, and high-level production to the table.

Green Bay Packers Looking At CB Karon Prunty

Prunty’s path to the NFL is a story of resilience and adaptability. He began his college career at Kansas in 2020, immediately making his mark as a True Freshman All-American. During that standout season, he recorded one interception and 10 passes defensed, allowing zero touchdowns.

Seeking a new environment, he transferred to North Carolina A&T. After sitting out the 2021 season, he became a reliable starter from 2022 to 2024. For his final season, Prunty transferred to Wake Forest, moving back to a high-profile program to prove his skills against elite competition. Reuniting with his former Kansas position coach, Chevis Jackson, Prunty successfully re-established himself as a legitimate professional prospect.

Athletic Profile and Performance Metrics

At Wake Forest, Prunty delivered exceptional coverage statistics. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed a mere 48.1 percent catch rate and yielded just 18.3 receiving yards per game. Quarterbacks targeting him managed a modest 79.8 passer rating.

Though he did not receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, Prunty proved his athleticism during Wake Forest’s pro day. He measured in at 6-foot-1.5 with nearly 32-inch arms, providing the length professional scouts covet. He ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash and posted a 33-inch vertical jump, earning a strong Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 8.65. Furthermore, he boasts incredible on-field experience, logging almost 3,300 defensive snaps throughout his college career.

Fitting the Packers’ Defensive Plans

The Packers possess a clear need for young, developmental talent at the cornerback position. While general manager Brian Gutekunst recently added veteran Benjamin St-Juste to the roster, St-Juste is currently the only cornerback under contract beyond the 2026 season.

Green Bay needs an influx of youth to secure the future of its secondary. Prunty fits the physical profile the Packers prefer on the boundary. His size, length, and proven ability to disrupt passes make him a highly appealing developmental prospect. While analysts project him as an undrafted free agent, his extensive experience and solid athletic testing suggest he could compete for a roster spot and contribute meaningfully to the Packers’ defense.
