Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur Talks Mindset Change For 2026 To Jumpstart The Offense

The Green Bay Packers entered the 2025 season with massive expectations, only to watch their offensive production mysteriously stall. Now, head coach Matt LaFleur is taking decisive action. He plans to completely strip the offensive system down and treat the upcoming season like his very first year on the job.

Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur On Plan To Improve Offense

Following a highly successful 2024 campaign, the Green Bay Packers expected to dominate. With Jordan Love entering his third year as the starting quarterback and a talented young receiving corps ready to break out, the foundation looked incredibly strong on paper.

Instead, the team dropped to 15th in total yards and 16th in points. Injuries quickly derailed their momentum, with key playmakers like Tucker Kraft, Jayden Reed, and Christian Watson missing significant time. Furthermore, the offensive line severely underperformed. A previously elite run game plummeted to middle-of-the-pack status, and Love faced a staggering 140 throws under pressure—the highest mark of his career as a starter.

Stripping It Down to Year 1

Rather than making sweeping changes to his offensive coaching staff, LaFleur retained most of his assistants. He firmly believes the core issue lies in basic execution. His primary solution involves a complete schematic reset.

“I thought the best way for us to move forward is we’ve just got to strip everything down, start like it’s Year 1 all over again, and get into the detail,” LaFleur recently explained.

By returning to foundational concepts, the coaching staff aims to eliminate bad habits. They want to reinforce the precise details and techniques that made the offense so explosive just two years ago. Treating the playbook as a brand-new installation forces veteran players to engage with the material critically, preventing complacency.

Forging a Relentless Play Style

A major component of this rebuilding phase involves a renewed emphasis on effort and overall play style. LaFleur specifically wants his players to strain through the whistle.

When a play breaks down and goes off-schedule, he expects receivers, running backs, and tight ends to relentlessly work to get open for their quarterback. Similarly, he demands the offensive line adopt an aggressive mindset, asking them to “block to infinity.”

If the players embrace this detail-oriented mindset, the offense clearly possesses the talent to quickly return to elite status. The upcoming offseason workouts will serve as a crucial testing ground for this renewed approach. Fans should watch closely to see if going back to the basics can successfully reignite the Green Bay offense.
