Houston Rockets Center Steven Adams will remain with the team for the foreseeable future. The two sides agreed to a three-year $39 million contract extension Saturday afternoon. The veteran center was set to become a free agent this offseason. This contract extension ensures Adams will not hit the open market.
Adams is coming off a solid season for the Rockets. He averaged 3.9 points and 5.6 rebounds during the regular season. He helped anchor Houston’s defense and was one of the best offensive rebounders in the league. The veteran center led the NBA in offensive rebounding percentage this year. He also helped the Rockets have a tremendous season on the offensive boards. How will this deal work out for both sides?
How Will Steven Adams Help the Houston Rockets?
At this point in his career, the center will provide a veteran presence to a Houston Rockets team on the upswing. Houston had a strong regular season, but they will reportedly be in the market for a marquee player this offseason. The team has been linked to Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Phoenix Suns Forward Kevin Durant for weeks. Whether or not the team lands one of these big-name free agents this summer, Adams will be an integral part of a team looking to take the next step in the Western Conference.
Final Thoughts
This contract is beneficial for both sides. Houston retained a key member of their team and Adams stays with a team that is a great fit for him. He will look to play well again next season and help the Houston Rockets reach their full potential.
