Jalen Milroe Could Be the Steal of the 2025 NFL Draft

Jalen Milroe
Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe (4) throws the ball as Auburn Tigers take on Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024. Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Auburn Tigers 28-14.

Each NFL Draft cycle includes a quarterback who flies under the radar. In 2025, that player could be Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. While prospects like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders dominate headlines, Milroe has quietly built a case as one of the most dynamic and underrated quarterbacks in the class.

He brings elite athleticism, a powerful arm, and proven leadership from one of college football’s most demanding programs. However, scouts and analysts have been quick to question his decision-making and consistency. The same criticisms that once followed Lamar Jackson. History may be repeating itself, and Milroe could be the latest example of a quarterback being underestimated before taking the league by storm.

Milroe’s Skill Set Fits Today’s NFL

Milroe has the physical tools NFL teams covet. His ability to extend plays, launch accurate deep balls, and break off long runs makes him a threat on every down. He showed noticeable growth throughout the 2024 college season and led Alabama with poise and explosiveness. While analysts may pick apart his footwork and progression reads, those are areas that can improve with coaching. What stands out is his raw talent, leadership, and ability to elevate a team under pressure. In the right system, Milroe could thrive at the next level.

Lamar Jackson Faced the Same Criticism

In 2018, Jackson entered the draft with a Heisman Trophy and elite stats. Yet, scouts doubted his passing ability and even suggested he switch positions. He was selected with the final pick of the first round and then won an MVP in his second season. Milroe is not identical to Jackson, but the pattern is familiar. A mobile quarterback with explosive playmaking ability is being questioned for not fitting the mold. History shows that dismissing a talent like this can be a major mistake.

A Risk Worth Taking

Milroe may not be viewed as a first-round pick right now, but that could change quickly. If a franchise believes in his upside and gives him time to develop, he could become one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL Draft. Teams that hesitate might end up watching him shine somewhere else. Just like they did with Jackson.
