The New York Jets Are One Game Away From the Most Embarrassing Record in NFL History

You almost have to respect the commitment to the bit at this point. We are 16 games into the 2025 NFL season. That is 64 quarters of professional football. And through it all, the Jets defense has done something truly remarkable: they have not caught a single one.

If the Jets walk off the field at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo this Sunday without an interception, they will become the only team in the history of the National Football League to go an entire season without a defensive takeaway through the air. It is a level of statistical futility that honestly feels harder to achieve than winning the Super Bowl.

Aaron Glenn Faces a Cruel Irony

There is a specific kind of pain reserved for Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn right now. Remember, this isn’t just some offensive guru trying to figure out a defense. Glenn was a three-time Pro Bowler as a player. He made a living snatching footballs out of the air, logging 41 interceptions over his career.

For a man who built his reputation on being a ballhawk to preside over a defense that treats the football like it’s covered in grease is the kind of irony that makes you want to laugh to keep from crying.

Glenn spoke to reporters recently, offering what might be the understatement of the century regarding this 3-13 nightmare. “This has not been the season we all wanted,” Glenn said, “but there are some things I really like about what we did.” While we admire the optimism, it is hard to find the silver lining when you are staring down the barrel of the worst defensive record in league history.

A Season To Forget In New York

It’s not just the lack of turnovers that has defined the Jets’ 2025 campaign, though that is certainly the cherry on top of this unappetizing sundae. The team started the year spiraling with seven straight losses. They’ve managed to drop six one-score games. That is a stat that usually suggests bad luck, but for this team, it suggests an inability to close.

The offense hasn’t exactly been helping out, either. Averaging just 18.3 points per game and shuffling through a quarterback room that includes the likes of Brady Cook and the ghosts of Justin Fields past, the Jets have left their defense on the field for far too long. But even a tired defense usually gets lucky once in a while.

Can the Jets Avoid History In Buffalo?

So, here we are. Week 18. The Jets are heading to Orchard Park to face an 11-5 Bills team that is tuning up for the playoffs. The spread is ugly. The weather will probably be ugly. And the vibes are definitely ugly.

But the scoreboard doesn’t really matter this Sunday. At this point, a win would just hurt the draft position. The real Super Bowl for this squad is simple: Catch the ball. Just once.

If they can intercept Josh Allen, or whoever the Bills trot out there in the fourth quarter, they can avoid being the answer to a trivia question at dive bars for the next 50 years. If not? Well, at least it is almost the offseason.
