The Las Vegas Raiders have been in the news a lot lately as things have been coming out with their coach and star players. However, one of the more impactful news items came out on Tuesday afternoon as it was announced that the team will be without star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins for a while as he is heading to Injured Reserve. What exactly happened and why? Let’s take a look at what is known right now.

Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn ImagesNFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins suffered a Jones Fracture on Sunday against the Denver Broncos and will be placed on Injured Reserve. This is a massive blow to the Las Vegas Raiders as he signed a four-year, $110 million contract this offseason to join the team and the contract gets a lot more expensive as the contract goes on. Wilkins has played well this season as in five games, he recorded a pair of sacks, six quarterback hits, and 17 total tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, Christian Wilkins has the ninth-best defensive grade for an interior defender this season (74.8).
This is going to be a massive blow for the Las Vegas Raiders as now more focus will shift to edge rusher Maxx Crosby as Wilkins was a big piece to the defensive line. With the news regarding wide receiver Davante Adams wanting to be traded on top of this, it seems like the Las Vegas Raiders could be ready to hit the reset button. This will be interesting to see how the Las Vegas Raiders are able to play without Christian Wilkins for at least the next four weeks. Their next four games are:
- Week 6: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
- Week 7: at Los Angeles Rams
- Week 8: vs. Kansas City Chiefs
- Week 9: at Cincinnati Bengals
That does not mean Christian Wilkins will be ready after their Week 10 bye, but gives a bit of an idea around what he could miss for the Las Vegas Raiders as he recovers from the Jones Fracture.
