Liverpool vs Leverkusen: Preview

Following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, the ownership group at Anfield offered a lucrative contract to Arne Slot. His start at the club has exceeded even his expectations. Liverpool has shown their strength in the early stages of the 2024-25 Champions League, defeating AC Milan, Bologna, and RB Leipzig. A single goal from Darwin Nunez secured a 1-0 victory against RB Leipzig in October, putting Liverpool just behind Aston Villa in the UCL standings.

Trying to match the incredible achievements of the 2023-24 season was always going to be a huge challenge for Alonso’s Leverkusen. They were just 90 minutes away from a fantastic treble last season but fell short of an outstanding performance by Ademola Lookman in the Europa League final. The Bundesliga Invincibles are doing well in European football this season, earning seven points from their first nine games. They secured victories against Feyenoord and AC Milan but played a disappointing draw against Brest on matchday three.

Liverpool vs Leverkusen: Team News

Key defender Ibrahima Konate had to leave the game at halftime because of an arm injury. Alisson Becker (hamstring), Harvey Elliott (foot), Federico Chiesa (fitness), and Diogo Jota (abdominal) are all sidelined and will be unable to play. Salah moved past Robbie Fowler into eighth place on the all-time Premier League scoring list on Saturday. He now has a chance to be the first player in 21 years to score in six consecutive Champions League home games for an English club, a feat last achieved by Ruud van Nistelrooy for Manchester United in 2023.

Leverkusen’s Nordi Mukiele suffered a thigh injury during the match against Stuttgart and is likely to be sidelined until after the international break. Mukiele is now alongside Amine Adli, who has a broken leg, and Jeanuel Belocian, who is dealing with a foot injury. Martin Terrier also missed the Bundesliga match on Friday, but Alonso is optimistic that Terrier will be fit for the upcoming trip to Anfield. Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz is looking to join the ranks of Erling Haaland and Manor Solomon as the third player aged 21 or younger to score in each of his first three Champions League away matches.

Liverpool vs Leverkusen: Possible Starting Lineups

Liverpool vs Leverkusen: Prediction

Liverpool have been performing well under the guidance of Slot this season. The home team made a great comeback in the Premier League this past weekend and will need to step up their game on Tuesday. Bayer Leverkusen haven’t reached the same level as last season, but they still can surprise anyone. Liverpool is the stronger team and has a small advantage heading into this match. Our prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
