New York Knicks Point Guard Jalen Brunson had a game to remember on Monday night at home against the Houston Rockets. New York pulled off a 124-118 victory powered by Brunson’s excellence. Brunson had 42 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists. He joined Richie Guerin, Walt Frazier, Bernard King, Stephon Marbury, and Trey Burke as the only Knicks to record 40+ and 10+ assists in a game. Brunson scored 17 points in the fourth quarter as New York overcame an 11-point deficit entering the final quarter.
Brunson is having a great regular season and it led to him being named an NBA All-Star a few weeks ago. He is ninth in the league with 26 points per game and and eighth in the league with 7.6 assists. Will the star point guard be able to keep up his high level of play as the New York Knicks look to keep up their winning ways?
New York Knicks Season Summary
New York is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They are the third seed in the conference with a 33-17 record. The Knicks are also one of the NBA’s hottest teams winners of seven of their last eight games. Their only loss came to the Los Angeles Lakers powered by a LeBron James triple-double. New York, powered by Brunson and Center Karl-Anthony Towns has one of the league’s best offenses. They are fourth in points per game, third in field goal percentage, and sixth in three-point percentage. Towns is also having a great regular season and was named an NBA All-Star alongside Brunson.
Towns is 15th in the league in scoring and second in rebounding. New York’s defense has been middling this regular season. They are eighth in points allowed, 19th in opposing field goal percentage, and the worst team in the league at defending the three-pointer. The team’s great offense has helped them overcome a defense that needs to improve to have the fifth-best point differential. If the New York Knicks want to be a true contender, they must become a better defensive team.
Final Thoughts
Brunson and the New York Knicks return to the court this evening when they visit the Toronto Raptors. Following tonight’s contest, the New York Knicks return home to host the Boston Celtics on Saturday evening. Brunson is having a season for the ages and single-handedly helping the New York Knicks become a threat in the Eastern Conference.
