The Philadelphia Phillies acquired veteran Starting Pitcher Jesus Luzardo from the Miami Marlins earlier today. Miami picked up Starlyn Caba and Emaarion Boyd in the trade. Caba is the No. 4 prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies organization while Boyd is No. 23.
Luzardo is coming off an injury-riddled 2024 season where he suffered a season-ending lumbar stress reaction in June. Even when he was healthy enough to take the mound last season, he did not fare well. He was 3-6 with a 5.00 ERA. Luzardo is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2025 regular season. How will this deal work out for both sides?

Philadelphia is coming off a solid regular season where they won the National League East. Their postseason ended at the hands of the New York Mets in the NLDS. Luzardo joins a Philadelphia Phillies rotation that is arguably the best in Major League Baseball. It includes Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez. Philadelphia’s pitching staff was one of their strengths in 2024 as they were 11th in ERA, eighth in strikeouts, and 10th in WHIP.
Final Thoughts
Luzardo will look to have a career resurgence with a Philadelphia Phillies rotation that is immensely talented. Philadelphia will look to maintain its regular season success and continue to be one of the league’s best teams in 2025 and beyond.
