Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Sam Darnold has had a career resurgence for the ages over the last two seasons. It started last season when he guided the Minnesota Vikings to a 14-3 record. Unfortunately, his great season was soured by a poor performance in Week 18 and in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs.
Darnold has upped the ante in his first season with the Seattle Seahawks. He helped guide the team to a 14-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Darnold and the Seahawks now find themselves playing in Super Bowl LX. This run of back-to-back 14+ win seasons matches Tom Brady (2003-2004) as the only other quarterback in league history to have such a successful two-year run. Can the Seattle QB cap it off with a Super Bowl win against Brady’s former team?
How Does Darnold’s Run Compare To Tom Brady’s?
In the 2003 regular season, Brady led the Patriots to a 14-2 record. Brady and the Patriots capped off the season with a win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. New England also went 14-2 during the 2004 regular season. Brady’s historic run was punctuated by back-to-back championships. The New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Even though Darnold is not in a position to win back-to-back titles, a win in Super Bowl LX would quiet his many detractors once and for all.
What To Expect In Super Bowl LX
Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks enter the Super Bowl as 4.5-point favorites. Seattle’s offense was firing on all cylinders in the NFC Championship Game while New England’s offense was virtually non-existent in a Denver blizzard. If Darnold can channel Brady next Sunday, he will add Super Bowl champion to his resume.
