With one swing of the bat, Seattle Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh put himself into the history books. He hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to continue what has been a tremendous season. It was his 48th home run of the season. That tied him with Kansas City Royals Catcher Salvador Perez for the most home runs in a season by a primary catcher. Raleigh wasted no time breaking the record. He hit another two-run shot, his 49th of the year, in the bottom of the second to have the record all to himself.
The Mariners catcher is having an MVP-caliber campaign. He is leading the league in home runs by a wide margin, second in RBI, third in Slugging Percentage, and third in OPS. Can the star catcher keep making history over the final month of the regular season?
Seattle Mariners Season Summary
It has been a good season for the Mariners. They are in second place in the American League West. They also occupy the third American League wild card spot. Seattle’s offense, led in large part by Raleigh, has exceeded expectations in 2025. They are 21st in the league in batting average, third in home runs, and 11th in runs scored. Seattle’s pitching staff, usually a strength, has held up its bargain again this season.
Final Thoughts
Following today’s game against the Athletics, the Seattle Mariners welcome the San Diego Padres to town for a three-game series beginning tomorrow. If the star catcher can continue playing at such a high level, no team will want to face the Mariners in the postseason.
