The Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Wide Receiver Chris Godwin to a 3-year $66 million deal on Monday afternoon. Godwin’s contract reportedly includes $45 million guaranteed. He left millions on the table to return to Tampa. The veteran receiver was limited to 7 games with an ankle injury he suffered last season.
He finished the season with 50 receptions, 576 receiving yards, and 5 receiving touchdowns. Godwin has been a star with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since being drafted by the franchise in 2017. He is second all-time in franchise history in receiving yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns. Will this end up being a good contract for both sides?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offseason Outlook
Bringing back Godwin solidifies one of the league’s best offenses. He will continue to play alongside future Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Mike Evans. Even though they are both older players, Godwin and Evans are still one of the best receiving duos in the National Football League. Tampa Bay’s running game will be led by Bucky Irving. He had a tremendous rookie season.
Buccaneers Quarterback Baker Mayfield had a career season in 2024. He was third in passing yards and tied for second in passing touchdowns. Godwin clearly prioritized a proven quarterback and a contender instead of a lofty contract on an inferior team.
Final Thoughts
Godwin returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers makes sense for both sides. The veteran wide receiver gets a great chance to win another Super Bowl and the franchise retained one of the best players in its history.
