Ole Miss standout quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was in his final year of college eligibility this season with the Rebels, and now the NCAA has come up with the official word of his request for the sixth year. The NCAA has decided to deny the former Ferris State and Ole Miss standout his sixth year, and now his college career is over, barring a successful Ole Miss appeal.
What Happened
After Ole Miss’s 31-27 loss in the CFP Semifinals to the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday night, ESPN’s Pete Thamel announced the decision by the NCAA on Chambliss’ eligibility in the early afternoon on Friday. This is huge news for the Ole Miss program because now, if they want Chambliss back, they have to file an appeal with the NCAA and hope they can win that appeal, or look for another quarterback in the portal before it expires next week.
What Happens Next
Ole Miss is in scramble mode now, being late to the transfer portal, like previously stated, they can appeal to get Chambliss back to Oxford for another year if they can win that appeal with the NCAA, but they have to now think of a backup plan for sure.
Meanwhile, for Chambliss, now we wait for either the Ole Miss appeal result if they do appeal, or his announcement to declare for the NFL Draft, especially with the CFP run that he had, has garnered some NFL attention for him in this upcoming draft for sure. It is definitely something to monitor for the Rebel fans as we move forward throughout the next few days, for sure, after a tough loss.
