The Washington Wizards, with the sixth pick, take Tre Johnson from the University of Texas. The Wizards are looking for another young piece to go with Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly in this latest attempt at a rebound. Washington is looking forward to having Johnson be that guy to create an interesting young core with the two French players that they have drafted in the last couple of seasons. Here is how Johnson is going to potentially change the Wizards franchise with his averages this past season. Here’s a deeper look at Johnson and how they fit with D.C. going forward.
Wizards’ Selection of Johnson Impact
Tre Johnson averaged 19.9 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game last season for the Longhorns. Johnson is probably the most talented pure scorer in this draft class as Washington was able to get the perfect wing to go along with Bilal Coulbaliy and Alex Sarr.
The Texas Prospect had a successful freshman season, guiding Texas to an NCAA tournament appearance, and his three-level scoring should help D.C. out a lot. Johnson will help Cory Kispert in the shooting department a whole lot in this environment as well for this young Washington team starting in the 2025-26 season and moving forward down the road.
Final Thoughts
The Core of Johnson, Sarr, and Coulibaly is the perfect nucleus for the future in this current rebuild of the Wizards as they move on with this young rebuild throughout the years going forward. Washington is going to be an exciting young team going forward, and with the addition of CJ McCollum earlier in the week, McCollum can be the perfect mentor for Johnson to start his career in D.C.
