Center Yang Hansen was selected No. 16 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2025 NBA Draft. Memphis traded away this pick as part of a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier tonight. The Grizzlies sent No. 16 overall, a 2028 first-round pick via Orlando, and two second-round picks to Portland for Cedric Coward.
Hansen had a strong tenure with the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association. He averaged 15.8 points per game during his two seasons in the league. The big guy also led the league in blocks and was one of the best rebounders in the Chinese Basketball Association. How will Hansen fit with the Blazers?
Yang Hansen’s Fit With the Portland Trail Blazers
It has been a busy few days for the Trail Blazers. They acquired veteran Point Guard Jrue Holiday from the Boston Celtics on Monday. Hansen joins a Portland team with a glut of players at the center position. He will be playing alongside the No. 7 overall pick from last year’s draft, Donovan Clingan. It remains unclear if the Blazers plan on playing both of the young big men together next season.
Final Thoughts
Hansen is the biggest question mark of any of the picks thus far in the 2025 NBA Draft. He will look to play well and become a household name to an American audience. He can be a solid defender once he hits the floor. The big man will look to refine his offensive game in the National Basketball Association.
