The Yankees dropped the first game of this series as they were walked off by Luis Canpusano of the Padres. They were able to win this game. This was a good thing because the team they are chasing, the Tampa Bay Rays, basically does not lose. That said, they are so far ahead in the Wild Card race that they would have to lose most of the 21 games left for the team.

Carlos Rodon started this game for the Yankees. He is still pitch-limited and not very efficient, so playing an extra-inning game last night was not great for their weary bullpen. However, they have added Luis Gil to that bullpen and will soon add Clarke Schmidt. Do you think the bullpen management hurt them in the playoffs?

The Yankees were hoping to bounce back in this game after getting walked off in a 3-2 loss on Friday night. They started Carlos Rodon. They hoped the pitch-limited star, who has not been very efficient this year, would be effective. Robbie Ray, a Padres trade acquisition, opposed him. Here is how the game played out.

In the second inning, Spencer Jones doubled, and Ben Rice scored. The Yankees jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Then Paul Goldschmidt walked with the bases loaded. Spencer Jones scored, and the Yankees led 2-0. Cody Bellinger then singled, and both Austin Wells and Jose Caballero scored. The Yankees led 4-0.

In the third inning, George Lombard Jr. hit a sacrifice fly, and Ben Rice scored. It was 5-0 Bombers. In the fourth inning, the Padres got on the board when Manny Machado hit a solo home run. The score was 5-1. That was the final score of the game.

Trent Grisham has Hamstring Issues

Before the game, the Yankees put Trent Grisham on the Injured List. The club on Saturday placed Grisham on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain after he was unable to reach Xander Bogaerts ‘ second-inning single on Friday night. The Bombers recalled outfielder Jasson Domínguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Grisham signed a lucrative deal before the season but has struggled at the plate this year and has clearly lost a step in the field.

Aaron Judge Injury Update

Aaron Judge continues to make progress. Though the Yankees lost on Friday night, they may have won a key battle in the war. Aaron Judge was back in the cage alongside his Yankees teammates late on Friday afternoon, spraying line drives around the Petco Park outfield before New York’s series opener against the Padres. He still seems to be on track to return during the next home stand, as he has not reported any issues during his ramp-up.
