The New York Mets’ offense had another great performance this afternoon at home against the New York Yankees. They won 12-6 as their bats overwhelmed the Yankees’ pitching staff. First Baseman Pete Alonso and Left Fielder Brandon Nimmo carried the load in Saturday’s win.
Alonso hit two home runs and finished with 5 RBI. Nimmo hit a grand slam in the 1st inning of the contest. Right Fielder Juan Soto also went yard for the second straight game as he continued his great performance at the plate. Will the offense of the New York Mets be able to keep performing at such a high level?
New York Mets Season Summary
After a miserable two-week stretch, the New York Mets have won four straight games. They are now 0.5 GB of the Philadelphia Phillies for the National League East lead. Even with a good showing against the Yankees, the Mets’ offense has not been strong this year. They are 19th in batting average, sixth in home runs, and 14th in runs scored. Alonso has paced the team’s offense this season. He is third in RBI, 10th in Slugging Percentage, and sixth in OPS.
New York’s pitching staff was one of the best units in the league until the injury bug hurt its production. They are fourth in ERA, 19th in WHIP, and eighth in opposing batting average. A few of the key Mets pitchers on the IL are Tylor Megill, Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, and Jose Butto. Once New York’s pitching staff gets healthy, they should be able to produce like they did earlier this season.
Final Thoughts
The New York Mets will go for the series sweep over the New York Yankees tomorrow afternoon. The Mets have one of the league’s most talented rosters. They have showcased over the weekend against their inter-borough rivals. That must feel great.
